Student visa
Students from all around the world can come and study in the UK. Adult students under Tier 4 (General) are allowed to:
* work part-time during term time
* work full-time during holidays
The maximum amount of part-time work you can do during term time is:
* 20 hours per week if you are studying a course at or above UK degree level or a foundation degree course, or if you made your Tier 4 (General) application on or before 2 March 2010.
* 10 hours per week if you are studying a course that is below UK degree level and is not a foundation degree course, and if you have made your Tier 4 (General) application on or after 3 March 2010.
Family Members
Spouses, children and dependents can accompany students if they wish.
If students will be studying in the UK for six months or less, they cannot bring their family members to the UK.
However if students will be studying in the UK for more than six months, they can bring their family members to the UK but they must be able to support themselves financially for the entire period of their stay without needing help from public funds.
The amount of money that the family members (or students) will need to show (students - as well as showing the money to cover thier own living costs in the United Kingdom) depends on where you study:
Money needed in London
Each of the family members will need to show that they (or the student) have £533 per month, for each month of the students course up to a maximum of nine months
Outside London
Each of the family members will need to show that they (or the student) have £400 per month, for each month of the students course up to a maximum of nine months
The initial process for entering the UK as a student depends on the student’s nationality. The students who have nationalities that require a visa to enter the UK must make their application to the British diplomatic office from their country of residence before travelling to the UK.
Students who are nationals of countries that do not require visas to enter the UK may show all the relevant documents (valid passports) showing their eligibility at entry to the UK.
Persons who are in the UK and wish to actually change (switch) their status to a student visa will need to check if they are eligible to do so. The Home Office does not allow all nationalities to switch status in the UK.
To qualify for a student visa you must show that you are accepted on a course of study at:
1. Publicly funded institutions of higher education such as a university. 2. a private education institution, or an independent school that you will commit: 3. an actual full-time degree course 4. An actual course that is running during the week that includes at least 15 hours of organised daytime study a week
You must be able to pay for your course and support, accommodate yourself and any of your dependants without working more than you allowed to or any help from public funds.
You must plan to leave the United Kingdom when you complete your studies. You should show some sort of evidence that you are willing to leave the UK when your studying is finished.
Persons can apply within the UK to switch from another category to the Student. Usually the term of visa is according to the duration of the course and the initial visa is issued from six months to a year.
