Fiancé visa

The UK fiancé visa is designed to allow the fiancé of a UK permanent resident/UK citizen to enter the United Kingdom before they get married.

A fiancé visa gives the applicant permission to stay in the UK for up to 6 months, during which time they are not permitted to take up any work, and will have to support and accommodate themselves and any dependants without using public funds.

To be able to be eligible for the fiancé visa you must have actually met your fiancé. You must also be planning to marry or register your civil partnership legally within the 6 months of coming to the UK and be determined to live together once you have.

Once you have been married or registered your civil partnership legally, if you like you can then apply to live in the UK on a marriage visa. Unlike the fiancé visa the marriage visa is given for up to 2 years, which comes along with certain rights such as giving you the permission to live and work in the UK.
