ILR - Indefinite leave to remain
Indefinite Leave to Remain (also known as settlement or permanent residence) means that the UK Government no longer places any restrictions on your conditions of your stay in the UK.
Depending on different visa categories, you can qualify for indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom, these categories are:
• If you have a Work Permit Visa, and have spent a period of five years in the UK with it.
• If you have a HSMP/Tier 1 Visa, and have spent a period of five years in the UK with it.
• If you have a Marriage/Unmarried Partner/Civil Partner Visa, and have spent a period of two years in the UK with it.
• If you have a Business Category Visa, and have spent a period of five years in the UK with it.
• If you have an Ancestry Visa, and have spent a period of five years in the UK with it.
• If you have a Writers, Composers or Artists Visa, and have spent a period of five years in the UK with it.
• If you are an EEA citizen, and have spent a period of five years and have met the EC Treaty rights in the UK.
• If you have lawfully spent a period of 10 years in the UK.
• If you have unlawfully (or certain unlawful durations) spent a period of 14 years in the United Kingdom.
